why are there gaps on top and on the bottom of the doors on manufactured homes?
Manufactured Homes July 8th, 2009my manufactured home has gaps on the bottoms and tops of every single door. is this for air circulation? if so why do these kinds of houses need to have air circulating? i want to cover them up so when your trying to go to the bathroom little kids can’t just look under the doors. any ideas? thanks.

Because it’s a manufactured home, everything is prefab. Depending on the quality of the home. If you wanted one like a stick built home, you will pay more. Now I’ve seen some awesome manufactured homes that I feel are of better set up and quality that most site built home (except custom), but they’re up there in price. You get what you pay for.

I’m assuming that your home has a forced air hvac system. The most likely reason is that this system doesn’t have return air duct work for each individual room but rather uses one large one

Manufactured homes get air from the outside for combustion. Your doors are like this to let the air from the whole house circulate back to the furnace. If a room is sealed off from the rest of the house it’s like filling up a glass. The room fills with hot air and can’t get back out to the furnace. So once full of hot air no more air can get in. My suggestion is to teach the children it’s not polite to look under bathroom doors.
