i want to play counter strike 1.6 on Open GL mode But the FPS is always 20 or lower. Any suggestion for graphics cards for a computer like this? I saw a couple on Tigerdirect but i dont know which one will be good for running CS 1.6 Open GL mode.
P.S i run CS 1.6 on software mode.

Oh one more thing, i heard this computer can only run PCI cards. Not PCI-E or AGP

Your machine is a lot like my Dell Dimension 2400 was. Your options are pretty limited if you can’t install an AGP card.
There are Geforce FX cards in the PCI form factor. These are really cheap if you get them on new-egg. They won’t push the latest and greatest games very quickly, but they DO support the latest shader revision you’ll get from Nvidia PCI.
Another, probably better option is a Radeon X1300 PCI. It will give you pretty new shaders, and it’ll give you the best performance you should expect out of a PCI card. Unfortunately, that isn’t very good performance at all. In Quake 4, you’ll have to run at 800×600 to get acceptable performance.
Despite the low performance, either card will work EXTREMELY well for CS, and you should consistently get frame rates far beyond the refresh rate of your monitor.
And these other people suggesting 8800s obviously didn’t catch that you only have PCI slots.

hi scared, only one i recommend is 8800gts or 8800gtx they hve the power for performance and gaming and it takes a lot of power forgaming so thats the way to go. good luck hope i have been helpful to you

Well if you have an AGP slot go with a nvidia 7600, if you run sli your best bet is in the 8200 -8600 range based on your power supply. Yo may want to add some more RAM to that bad boy as well. CS source should not need more than that. Check out newegg.com they usually have some pretty good deals as well. If you plan on spending any more than $300 I would say think about an upgrade, however those GPUs should be pretty cheap as well as RAM. You won’t need to spend more than $150. You should play a little Modern Combat. It blows CS away!!!
