Painting over the trim in my mobile home?

Posted by Modular Homes on July 23rd, 2010

I want to paint the "wooden" trim that lines the ceiling and doors in my mobile home, but nothing sticks to that stuff! It’s not real wood – I’m not even sure what it is. What kind of paint/primer can I use to make flat wall paint stick to it?

Can a TV be mounted to the wall of a mobile home?

Posted by Modular Homes on July 21st, 2010

We got a new 32" HDTV for Christmas and we want to mount it to the wall above our fireplace. Are mobile home walls sturdy enough to hold it? It only weighs 25 pounds so it is not a big heavy one. We are going to buy one of the wall mounts. My other concern is that it is going to be above the fireplace, as long as it is high up there should be no problem with the heat right? We live in Florida and we have never used the fireplace, but just in the event that we decide to would it be okay?

Modular home designs where you fit each room together?

Posted by Modular Homes on March 21st, 2010

A few years ago I saw a piece on "I Want That" (A long gone show on HGTV) where they featured modular homes which were modern in design and were basically variations of boxes for different rooms or groups of rooms which fit together like legos to create your house. It was pretty cool. I went online to their website even, but naturally I now don’t remember the company or anything and was wondering if anyone out there knows what I’m talking about or something similar maybe?

How much would it cost to add on a room to a mobile home, where there is already a screened in porch?

Posted by Modular Homes on February 23rd, 2010

Ok we are going to be adding on a room to my grandmothers mobile home. The room will be where there is already a screened in porch. So the foundation is already there. The room will not be completely enclosed. We only want to have two walls (insulated) for now. No electricity is needed. The third wall will be her mobile home and the forth is her laundry room. How much do you think this would cost as a "Do It Yourself " project? Also, if there are any professional carpenters out there, how much would you charge for this type of job? If no one knows the answer to any of the questions, perhaps you have added a room on to your home in the past. How much did it cost you? Thanks

Here are the outside measurements:
long wall height: 8 feet
long wall width: 152 inches = 12.6 feet

smaller wall width: 131 inches = 10.91 feet (including where door will be, there is a storm door right now)
smaller wall height: 105 inches = 8.75 feet

When did mobile home manufactures start using shingled roofs?

I’m looking at buying a "2000" Fleetwood mobile home. It has a metal roof and metal siding. Is it probably much older than 2000?
