Recommendations for good modular home builders?

Posted by admin on November 9th, 2009

We’d like to put a little recreational home on some Mountain acreage and are tossing around either a log cabin kit or possible a modular.. Has anyone had any good/bad experiences with any of the builders? Thank you!
I saw what looked like a good one that sells them Nationally on an info commercial last night, curious to see if anyone else used same…
You have a good point re; making sure the sales dept. is a good one. Thanks!

Someone who has bought a manufactured or modular home in or near Delaware?

Posted by admin on August 19th, 2009

Has anybody bought a manufactured or modular home around Delaware? Does anybody know a manufacturer who is under 0 per square foot? What were your experiences?
Wait, I’m confused, that doesn’t make sense to me. Like, there’s no way I could go "Hmm, I think I’ll pay per sq ft." And end up buying a massive house for ,000.

o_O Pretty please explain how/why that works? ^_^ Thanks!

What is the difference and pros,& cons regarding mobile, modular, and factory homes?

Posted by admin on July 2nd, 2009

Please don’t send me links to sites explaining the differences, cause it all says the same thing. If your living in one of these kinds of homes, or have lived in them, owned them, then your answer would help greatly. What is sidturbing when we see the showroom of modular and factory homes, the walls are tissue thin, all the updated new walls, are made poorly, also there plumbing and electric has either no warranty on it, or a small warranty on it. My question is with this, if there so good, why don’t they have a warranty on important things like plumbing, and electric? Also I noticed that many property lots won’t allow factory homes on it, why is that? How long do mobile, modular, and factory homes last? Prefer answers from homeowners who have actually owned these types of homes, and have a first hand knowledge of them, from their own experiences.

manufactured homes brands good or bad?

Posted by admin on June 24th, 2009

I am near the point of purchasing a manufactured home and have narrowed the choices down to the following brands not necessarily in this order: Silver Crest, Skyline, Karsten, Fleetwood, Clayton, Golden West, Kit Homes. I think Fleetwood is at the bottom of the list as the local plant #17 in Woodland Calif. has been decertified by HUD several times over the last few years (Currently decertified). Any one have experiences with any of these brands?

Any experiences with Modular homes?

Posted by admin on June 16th, 2009

We have been looking into modular homes, the type that comes in as one piece, not 2 pieces or a double wide. (One company we are looking at is Wardcraft.) My question is, has anyone had any experieces with these type of homes? We have been in a new one and it's nice and all but my question is has anyone had any experience in living in one for more than 5-10 years? I was just wondering how energy efficient they are, if there are any problems that have developed after a period of years. I guess I am just wondering all these things because the type and size we are looking at would be as much a stick built home and I don't want to invest that much into a modular home and then in 20 years have major problems. I know stick built homes can also have problems too. We'd have a basement under it for sure. I know they do usually come with the cheapest appliances and carpet possible. Can anyone give me any other suggestions or experiences with them?
