Price-wise, is it better to buy (and live) in a mobile home community or buy a condo? How much are condo’s?
Manufactured Homes July 30th, 2009Want to move from a big home after 40 years, to more manageable housing, either nice mobile home community or condo. Any suggestions here?. I’m totally confused & don’t want to jump into anything without some knowledge on this topic. Some friends tell me they love living in a nice mobile home community. But what are the miscell. expenses vs. a condo?

I can’t speak to relative short-time costs, but believe a mobile home is a poor investment. It is bound to depreciate. A house or condo is likely to hold its value, or even appreciate in value. Also much easier to sell when the time comes. If you decide to go with a mobile home, get a real estate lawyer to explain the pitfalls in the agreement with the mobile home park. They can be devastating. Maybe even consult with a real estate lawyer on which way to go.
You can find condo costs in the classified ads, and learn continuing costs from a condo association that interests you. House costs can also be found in the classifieds.
At 82, I live alone in my big house, and plan to until I can no longer take care of myself. Maybe even after that if I can afford having a caregiver. I have even considered selling the house to one or both of my kids, and living off the payments they make.
"Used Mobile Homes" on the Internet has a lot of entries for them
