Painting over the trim in my mobile home?
Manufactured Homes July 8th, 2010I want to paint the "wooden" trim that lines the ceiling and doors in my mobile home, but nothing sticks to that stuff! It’s not real wood – I’m not even sure what it is. What kind of paint/primer can I use to make flat wall paint stick to it?

It is a photographic laminate plastic based product..I live in one too but i painted mine..You need to take a 180 to 220 grit sandpaper and rough up all surfaces them dust them off..Then you need to prime with the solvent cut "original kilz" not the kilz 2 water based stuff..After that and it dries thouroughly you can then paint it with a good latex paint..semi gloss is the most common for trim..or high gloss if your into extremely shiny

try car primer first than the flat home paint

Check it before you sand it. The trim in my mobile has something like a plastic wallpaper on it which peels off at the edges when it’s cut, and I haven’t tried yet but I think sanding might be a disaster with that. Maybe just priming it with primer meant for vinyl wallpaper, like Zinsser. Ask at the paint store.
