Need advice, modular home , thinking of putting sheetrock on walls and ceilings over existing material ?
Modular Home Questions February 26th, 2010I have a older 70’s modular home with large ceiling tiles ( length of half the house ) and thin paneling on walls, both are in tough shape, we have painted both , with no good results . Would sheetrock right over the existing material work, what problems / pitfalls, I am fairly handy but don’t like fine detail work , ie trim boards and such . Thanks for any ideas, I figured to do one room at a time.

I am not handy in drywall, but, logically, putting something over a wall would entail adjusting light socket depths, removing trim, cutting the trim to replace it, etc. If you don’t like fine work this doesn’t seem to be the ideal method. I’d repaint the proper way. Prime with a good primer and paint. The house is 40 years old.

yeah, it’s done alot. But you have to use the really thin sheetrock boarding. And know how to tape and finish it well.

I think you can do this-maybe do wood staining you can wood stain plaster/metal/whatever you want and it will seal in drafts and/or add insulation behind the siding.
