There are so many varieties of homes, it's impossible to rate them generally. They range from cheap, low quality to expensive and nice quality. Most homes on private land tend to be a good investment if they are well maintained. So I would say, get the home you like.

I actually bought a modular home but it was already set up and on site when I bought it. I would not waste money on putting up a double wide on a foundation. Mobile homes depreciate so much even if they are on a foundation. I would make sure that your home has a wood frame versus a steel frame. Our home is very small and we purchased it for $90,000. I think it all depends on what all you get as far as how much they are. But, I would get what you want if you plan on only doing this once! Best of luck to you.
