Modular home designs where you fit each room together?
Modular Home Questions March 21st, 2010A few years ago I saw a piece on "I Want That" (A long gone show on HGTV) where they featured modular homes which were modern in design and were basically variations of boxes for different rooms or groups of rooms which fit together like legos to create your house. It was pretty cool. I went online to their website even, but naturally I now don’t remember the company or anything and was wondering if anyone out there knows what I’m talking about or something similar maybe?

chris,
If you’re in a hurry to move into a new home, the modular is the way to go. These guys will take care of everything and you’ll get a fantastic home. Be careful of too many extended marriage wall seams. Temperature variations and settling will cause those seams to crack leaving a noticeable crack.
I purchased a 3400 sq ft home over a year ago and we’re enjoying it. You my see my installation at this address below.

I’ve never seen much come of that concept where I live (in western Oregon), although it may have caught on more in other places. Surprisingly enough, I saw somebody selling something similar recently on eBay! I thought that seemed like an odd place to be buying a modular home from, but at least give it a look. I suspect transportation is going to be the big thing here, unless you were close to a manufacturer. I’ve always worried about getting the foundation exactly right, too – the way I do things myself, if something is a little bit off, I can just fudge and still work with it. I bet your foundations really have to be perfect to make modular units come out right.
