Modular A Frame Log Homes?
Modular Home Questions June 2nd, 2009We are thinking of purchasing a Modular A Frame Log home to put on some land in North Florida. Can anyone suggest a good manufacturer for log homes that is reputable, affordable and quality?

We looked at a log frame home when deciding whether to build, go modular, get a windzone 2 manufactured home, etc. Have they told you with a log frame home you have to go around and caulk & seal where the logs meet most every year? This kind of maintenance was more than we expected. We ended up going modular, an on-frame modular from Palm Harbor. It was a disaster. We researched everything but the foundation installation. They violated IRC codes and didn't follow the "generic" foundation design plan. I am strongly suggesting you include investigation into the various types of foundation you will need for your home. The code stated PH should of gotten a soil sample and a geo-technical analysis when you encounter black clay soil.. Otherwise known as black land, black gumbo, and unstable soil. I'm just passing this information along. When you have this type of soil, the foundation requires additional stability. In our case, drilled piers underneath the runners. Please include foundation considerations in your research.

I'd research log home kit companies as a log kit is cheaper than hiring a builder. http://www.dakotaloghomes.com/log/log-cabin-kit
