Is it possible to install flood / motion detection lights on a mobile home?
Manufactured Homes February 9th, 2010The far side of my mobile home is very dark, and I have been having trouble with unwanted people coming into my yard. I live alone, so I would like to do some different things to take precautions.
I actually work for the local power company and have a street light installed on my property. It’s on the east side of my home (where I do most of my travelling and entering and exiting). The problem spot is on the west side.

Yes You can, they can be installed on any type of home. As long as they are done by someone who knows what they are doing! Check with your local power company too, they might be able to put up a dust to dawn(street) light for you if your willing to pay a monthly fee(My mother-in-law did this) But that might not be a option if there’s no power pole near the dark area!

Yes it’s possible, but you’ll need an electrician or someone who knows how to run wire and doing hookups, for the job.
I lived in a double wide years ago and it had an electrical outlet under the trailer. I connected to that and ran 14-2 cable to and through the under-skirting. Then I used plastic conduit to protect the wire, to run it up the outside of the trailer and I hooked everything up.
My motion detector still worked when I sold the place 6 years later, I assume it’s still working.

Apparently you don’t have any lights at all in that area now so that means there’s probably no wiring either. You’ll need to hire an electrician to run your wire so you may as well have him install your lights too while he’s at it. If you have a regular porch light that could be exchanged for flood lights that would probably be much less expensive and you could do it yourself. They could be aimed where ever you need them.

I don’t have much money so I installed my own flood light. I simply drilled a hole through my house with a 12" long 3/8" bit. I ran the wire through the hole. I bought a fifty foot long electric wire the same width as a short extension cord. I put a plug on the end of the wire and plugged into an AC outlet. I also put a line switch on the wire. It doesn’t look pretty, but it does the job. Also, I live in an old house that I am going to remodel before too long. When I remodel, I am going to run a normal wire and light switch. I leave the light on all night long, and I love it. I just bought CFL flood lights. They were on sale for $5 a piece. They are 16 watts, but they get much brighter than my old 75 watt flood bulbs. The CFL’s take a few minutes to warm up. They are sort of dim for a couple of minutes, and then they get very bright.
