Installing vinyl floor tiles in a modular home?
Modular Home Questions September 7th, 2010I have been told that this cannot be done because the shifting of the home causes cracks in the seams. Has anyone done this and did the seams stay together?

Correct me if I am wrong. What is consider a modular home up here is called a "pre fab home" means it is constructed in a factory and then moved and put together on your property. Looks just like a regular home and is NOT a trailor or mobile home? If thats true then my in-laws have a very nice modular home and their guest bathroom has vinyl flooring and its been 5 yrs now and it looks perfect it has not cracked and it has stayed together. With any foundation home there is some settleing

I am just recently purchasing a mobile home, it is an 88′ and it has the original vinyl floors in it and has been covered with even more vinyl, it looks good though and I am replacing all of it with some updated vinyl in both bathrooms and kitchen, shouldn’t be a problem, they don’t shift or anything unless they are being moved, but then that would be a trailer…

Certainly you can, many come with them already.
ALL homes settle, regardless of the construction method, this is more likely to cause cracks in drywall (especially around doors) than to separate floor tiles.
That being said, and this goes for any installation, flooring materials should be allowed to acclimate to the environment they will be install into for at LEAST 48 hours. This is true to vinyl tiles and especially true for wood products.
Vinyl tiles shrink, the lower the quality, the more likely they are to shrink. THAT is what causes cracks in the seams. When installing, press the tiles together as tight as you can, USE THE FLOOR SEALER designed for vinyl tiles.

vinyl is somewhat flexable and when glued to the floor will move and shift with the floor.unless there is extreme shifting it will be fine go for it !
