How much does it cost to re-skirt a double wide mobile home?
Manufactured Homes January 2nd, 2010I’m actually looking to buy a mobile home (lost my regular home to foreclosure, unfortunately) and a friend of mine is just going to give me hers, so she can get out of lot rent, but the park says that before ownership can be transferred, the skirting needs to be replaced. I’ve never lived in a mobile home before, so I have NO idea what the cost is. Thanks! ;o)
Oh! And it’s in Novi, Michigan in Oakland county ;o)

The cost is what ever you can find locally. It generally runs $12.00 sheet for vinyl skirting. To make sure your home breaths have every other sheet ventilated. Skirting up around your home is not going to keep your plumbing from freezing, especially in your area.. It is recommended to put heat tape on all your fresh water pipes and then insulate. Most skirting kits come with installation instructions, if you want to do it yourself it will save you money there. The only tools you will need for vinyl skirting is a large hammer and either tin snips to cut with or a small electric or cordless saw. If I new the size of the home I could give you a better idea on cost, but just for materials I would guess, single wide, $700.00 medium size double, $1,000.00.

All of the plumbing is under the trailer so the skirting needs to be insulated. Some people use sheet metal, others use vinyl, others use wood. I t might run 200 to 300 dollars.

If you can buy 28 ga. metal roofing reasonable. You can skirt the mobile home using 10′ lengths and 2×2,s. Cut the 2×2’s a little longer than the width of the metal. Sharpen one end to a point and drive a stake into the ground every 2′. Toenail into the bottom of mobile and secure the metal with screws. Check local code for vent requirements.
Cost would be material.

Use your yellow pages and look for mobile (or manufactured) home service companies. Also, you will need to find out what the community requirements are. Most have reg’s on colors and materials. Some will want pressure treated lumber under the bottom rail. And you need to know the dimensions. I am in NWOH, with community specifications, a 28×64 costs about $1,000.
