How long will a frame for a mobile home last for?
Manufactured Homes August 23rd, 2010I am looking into getting a mobile home. It is about 20 to 30 years old and needs a lot of work. I just don’t know if the frame is still good. How long does it take before the frame starts to go bad? Does it matter how well the mobile home was maintained previously?

In most areas of the U.S. the frame will last longer than the structure built upon it,…. except in coastal area where even the night dew has salt in it.
I have seen manufactured housing that was TRASHED, then bought at auction, torn off the frame & replaced with better insulation & ductwork, a substantial subfloor, actual 2×4 walls, proper insulation, & a good roof. -Add on a couple of expansions and you have a real house…. These units have proven to be every bit as good or better than anything currently built by "custom" home builders….at a fraction of the cost.
I installed a 3Ton a/c in one last spring and this summer has been a piece of cake for the owner.
(ed) Uhmmm, the frame is cold rolled steel, NOT iron. I hauled them for a number of years and have welded on them. The lady needs to check her facts.

The frame is iron, and will last forever, no matter what.
