How do you use a fireplace that's in a mobile home without burning the house down?
Manufactured Homes May 23rd, 2010We have a double wide mobile home and it has a fireplace in the living room. We have never used it but are wondering if anyone has, and how they did it. Thanks in advance

i’ve lived in this mobile home with fire place over twenty years.just be sure your stack is clean.mine never has gotten dirty.when lighting it make sure flume is open.new trailer you should’nt have any problem.old trl have it checked out by a fire place installer or someone who KNOWS about them.not someone who says he does.oh yes watch the sparks keep screen shut if no screen keep door shut or get a screen.good luck.you’ll do fine.

Why wouldn’t you use it? It should be installed just like any other with the correct flue’s, damper, hearth, etc. Start out with a small fire and keep an extinguisher around.

I wouldn’t use the fire place until I had it checked out by a professional chimney sweep. Being a mobile home fire place, I would only have small fires and get good insurance. ALSO GET GOOD SMOKE DETECTORS WITH GOOD BATTERIES. Practice a good fire escape plan.

My in-laws up in Iowa have a double wide with a fireplace. Once they had someone come in and double check that the installers had it in working order, they added the wood and fired it up.

Make sure that the wall behind the fireplace it insulated against heat and flame. and also the stovepipes.

If your fireplace was installed by someone that installes them for a living you will be okay. There are fireplaces rated for Mobile Homes. They are smaller and better insulated and require more clearance from combustibles for the vent pipe. Have it looked at.
