Can you take a mobile home and make it into a real home?
Manufactured Homes June 21st, 2009Im saying can you live in a mobile home then decide to
add on so it looks like a real home?
Or make it 2 stories?
Because my sisters pregnant and we need more
room and theres a lot of room around our home
so I'm wondering?
thanks!

I don't know why not. If it were me I'd drive around a lot of mobile home parks to see what others have done & go to mobile home dealers to check out the double-wides to get ideas.
I really don't think a 2nd story on a mobile home would be safe. As you know, mobile homes don't do well in tornadoes & a 2nd story gives high winds something more to grab hold of.

You can add on, build out not up..

You can purchase 2 story modular homes, but if yours wasn't built that way originally, then you cannot add a second story.
You can however, add as many rooms around the home as you like.
You'll need to make some sort of foundation for the addition, either footers, piers, or slab.
By the way, when youve got the addition finished, check with your insurance company… there's usually a discount for changing a mobile home from 'mobile' to 'permanent'.
Good Luck
